Playstation Home

Today I decided to dust off my PS3 which I haven't touched in months and check out Playstation Home. It's been so long since I played my PS3 that I actually forgot I can turn it on from the controller, wow.

So I log in, select Playstation Home, and wait for it to download and install for the first time. After that was done, it couldn't run because it needs around 4GB of space which I didn't have. So I had to go out, erase a bunch of games and videos. 4GB is a lot of space for something like Playstation Home.

I ran it again, customized my character, walked around, and played some bowling which I sucked at. It was fun but I don't see myself getting into it. Loading times are long, and the movements are a little iffy. I might just log in once in a while to play a game of pool or bowling.

It's still in beta though, so maybe the final release will bring more fun things to do in there.

Kings

I've just finished watching last week's 2-hour premiere of Kings, and I must say I'm impressed. It's a very entertaining political drama about a modern day monarchy. I think this show has huge potential, so let's hope they don't mess it up.

One problem though. The Sunday timeslot doesn't really work well for a political drama like this one. NBC needs to move it to the middle of the week for better ratings.

iPhone OS 3.0 is announced...

... and for some reason I'm not excited at all, even though the new firmware includes some highly anticipated features, for both developers and users. I think Apple can't impress me anymore, well they never really impressed me before anyway.

Ohh well!

CTRL+F in real life

Last night, a friend of mine was looking for something that he really needed and just couldn't find. We spent an hour looking everywhere without any luck, he was very frustrated. This reminded me of times when I would be looking for something and I would look through every square inch in my place without finding it or even getting close, then you start trying to trace back the last time you saw or used the item, but that doesn't help and you would get more pissed off.

At these situations, I always wish I could press CTRL+F on a virtual keyboard, and enter the name of the item that I'm looking for, and it would just point me to and highlight the item somehow. Geeky but very cool. I never told anyone that idea, but when I saw my friend in the same situation that I've been in many times, I asked him if he ever wished he could use CTRL-F in real life. And he said yes, he thought about it before. Then we started laughing at and discussing the idea further.

One day, people would think back and wonder how they ever lived without this.

CTRL-Z would also be extremely helpful by the way, but it's more complex from the technological and scientific perspective. So I'll leave that for another day.

No more PC gaming

You usually have to upgrade your computer frequently to keep up with new games. And even when you do, a year after you get top of the line specs, your computer becomes average again. It's an endless cycle that's just not worth it in my opinion. You can get the same quality of gaming on consoles for around half the cost.

The PC gaming industry has been declining in the last few years with the widespread of consoles. The only exception is MMO games which are keeping PC gaming alive. And even those are starting to pop out on consoles. It's just a matter of time before consoles take over that genre too.

So I think I'm done with PC games. Playing games is not going to be a factor in my next computer. As long as I can play media and do day to day things, that's all I need. With the cancellation of my Warhammer Online account a few weeks ago, I haven't been spending much time playing games, just the casual web game here and there, and I don't really call that gaming.

Technology in 10 years

Microsoft made a pretty cool video of what it thinks the world would be like in 2019. There's a lot of interesting ideas in there. Too bad business and politics will get in the way of implementing some if not most of it.

Here's a short version of the video. For a full 5-minute version, go here and watch the extended version.
